Inmate Text App
If you have a family member currently in prison, the best way to keep in touch with them is to use an inmate messaging app. These apps are designed to be in compliance with prison rules and allow family members and friends to send messages, photos video calls, eCards and even money to their trust account in prison. In addition to these messaging apps, there are also a number of federal inmate apps which provide additional services, such as video visits and phone calls.
The JPay app, for example allows family and friends to easily transfer money to the trust account of an inmate, as well as images, emails, eCards, and video grams. It also lets them create personalized postcards featuring personal photos. It's also a safer and more secure alternative to traditional postal mail.
Another popular texting application for inmates is GettingOut. It offers "simple and reliable communication" between inmates with their loved ones. The app, available in certain correctional facilities, allows inmates to upload photos as well as text their friends and families via their tablets. It costs inmates $0.25 for a message, and loved ones pay for the information that they use to view their messages (but not for explicit images). You can also use the GettingOut app to share pictures on Facebook or Foursquare and check-in on Foursquare and include a video in a YouTube upload.
